SAN ANTONIO -- It's a new way for you and your kids to be safe in the car while riding in the back seat.

Usually, children and adults riding in a back seat are strapped in with regular 'click-it' seatbelts. But Ford has come up with an inflatable seatbelt that could help protect you and your family if you are in a major accident.

The new Ford Explorers will be the first to have the inflatable seatbelts. The restraint system is designed to help reduce head, neck, and chest injuries in crashes, especially in children.

The seatbelts will be compatible with infant and child-safety seats as well as booster seats.

The seatbelts are padded, so kids will feel comfortable wearing them and won't put them on incorrectly.

Some local Ford dealers say the new inflatable seat belts will be an option on explorers starting next year.
