SAN ANTONIO - The Metro Health Department reports the influenza virus is slowing in San Antonio but also warns: don't let your guard down.
The flu virus hit San Antonio early this year, and as history has shown, that often means the virus will hit twice.
Health officials expect a second wave of the flu to peak in February or possibly March.
Nationally, Health officials say nine more deaths of children from the flu have been reported, bringing the total this flu season to 29.
In a typical season, about 100 children die of the flu, so it is not known whether this year will be better or worse than usual.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says half of confirmed flu cases so far are in people 65 and older.

Doctors say it can take up to two weeks after vaccination for a person to become protected from the virus.
