SAN ANTONIO -- More criminals are carrying a weapon when they break-in to a home or a car.
Bexar County Sheriff's Investigator John Hearn says in the past five months he's seen a change.
"It's getting really bad," Hearn told us. "Burglars show up with a weapon of some sort, be it a hand or a knife."
Just this week, a man tried to break into a Northeast Side home while the family was asleep. In this case, the homeowner and the would be robber had guns. Both fired shots, and no one was hurt.
"Don't shoot unless you have to," Hearn advised. "I'd say challenge them if you can to get him out of your house, great. But don't try and take them yourself."
And if someone tries to break into your car, Hearn encourages you to just call police.
