SAN ANTONIO -- Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland plans to build a memorial for some silent warriors: military working dogs and their handlers who have gone to war.
Many "soldier dogs" are trained at Lackland, and the Air Force base has a top-notch vet clinic to care for their injuries.
Hundreds of military dogs are currently deployed on life-saving missions like sniffing out bombs.
To honor them, Lackland will unveil the "military working dog teams national memorial" in October 2013.
Dog food company Natural Balance is helping raise money for the memorial.
