SAN ANTONIO -- A tourist visiting San Antonio is asking for your help after his dog was stolen. Police say James Maschmann, 67, was visiting the city from Iowa, when he stopped to eat at the Cracker Barrel off Southeast Military Drive near I-37 last Thursday.

He told officers he kept his car's passenger window open, so his 4-year-old Shih Poo dog, named Katie Jo, could get some air. Police say someone stole the dog, along with Maschmann's cell phone before driving off. Maschmann told police Katie Jo is valued at $500.

Surveillance video caught a white Ford pickup with a sun roof leaving the area at the time of the crime, but police do not have any other information on the vehicle. Maschmann says he will return to San Antonio this weekend to hand out fliers about Katie Jo's disappearance.

If you have any information on this crime, call the San Antonio Police Department's South Property Crimes Division at (210) 207-7334.

Lervia: LOL! Yep my girl was bumping into everything, so I reversed the cone, as the Vet suggested. Now she can see the 'clearances'. I know what you mean about the checkbook. The neighbors, not mine. They several years ago they spent ~$5,000 saving both of their dogs. You know how dog are... lead with the nose, poke it into the bushes looking for those wily lizards, then POW! And of course the second one has to see what caused the ruckus. Pow! Vet said there's a bunch of dogs getting popped this year, especially around new homes/construction. So peoples! Get the shot. And watch the kiddos close...then it's dog treats.. all around ;-)

Metal70s, OMG, you should have seen my blue merle when she was wearing her cone!!! Nothing was safe in the house, and she HATED it!!! She was so happy the day it came off!! Now, I know two of you on here with canaan dogs!! Neat dog. Glad you're doing the rattlesnake shot/booster. I started those after one of mine got bit....right after I'd stepped on the sucker and didn't really realize it until my dog got bitten. She survived fine, but the checkbook took quite a while to recover!! Give your girl a treat and a hug from me, and hope the cone gets to come off soon!!!

Lervia: Nice. Dogs can be a hoot and a help. My girl (canaan mix) is great around family, visitors and when we walk her. She's good around people of all ages and rainbow of flavors... except when she on guard duty in 'her' truck or watching after the Mrs. and grandkids. There isn't a man or beast that can pop into her yard, uninvited, without a fuss. But today she's kind sorry looking. She has one of those 'Cone of Shame' gizmos on. Vet put her in it today to stop her messing with the ouch she has resulting from her annual rattlesnake shot/booster. She does kind of look like a flowers when looking up at you, as my daughter mentioned. ;-)

A pickup with a sunroof? Okay? Shouldn't be too hard to spot (shrugs). Pobably the only one in town? Kinda wishing the same perp would try to reach in and pet/swipe my dog, while I'm using 'her' truck... Ya wanna talk about a stump grinder!?

Gnaeus. It shouldn't matter what side of town you stop in. If you have a decent city folks should not be limited by territory and have to worry about the criminals that have infested San Antonio. This should be called S*h*i*t city. It has gone to the dogs.

Tell the police to track your phone. If it was on they can have the carrier track it and when you find it you will probably find the dog. Good luck and I'm so sorry that San Antonio left you with such a sorrowful thing. I know I would be frantic if one of my dogs disappeared but I wouldn't leave any of them in the car with the window down far enough for someone to reach in a unlock the doors. You would have been better off if you had gone through a drive through somewhere, you would still have your dog and your phone. GNAEUS - that Cracker Barrel is just off the I35 freeway. They probably saw the sign for it and just exited. They were probably heading home from the valley somewhere where they spent the winter months. They are called "snow birds" for a reason!
