SAN ANTONIO -- Getting off of a public bus turned dangerous for one man, after he fell into an exposed manhole on the city's east side.
Juan Ojeda III said he is still recovering from his injured foot.
"They said that I hyper extended my foot and my toes backwards, " replied Ojeda.
Ojeda fell into the hole on November 21st just before 9 p.m. He said it was dark and he didn't see the exposed hole.
"The next step, I just stepped straight into the manhole, " said Ojeda.
Ojeda said he has no medical insurance and hasn't been released to go back to work. He's in the food service business and has to be on his feet all day. Ojeda went on to say the city needs to be held responsible for what happened.
"It's their fault that it's not covered or not blocked off like it should have been, " said Ojeda.
The city's Public Works Department told News 4 WOAI the manhole cover was stolen. The city covered the manhole once the matter was brought to the department's attention.
Ojeda said he hopes by sharing his story of what happened to him, that it won't happen to anyone else.
The city says if anyone sees an exposed manhole to call 311, so the manhole can be replaced.
