MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- A 41-year-old man is in custody tonight for allegedly trying to run over a sheriff's deputy outside a Houston area mall. Detectives say the deputy followed Taud Damonn Washington into the parking lot, after Washington tried buying items inside the mall using a stolen credit card, but was denied at each store.
Detectives say Washington gave up on his shopping attempts and tried leaving in his car. Deputies tried using their patrol cars to box him into a parking spot, when he drove towards a deputy who tried approached Washington on foot. The deputy fired one shot into the windshield, but no one was wounded.
Washington then surrendered to deputies. He faces charges of aggravated assault and a possible charge of credit card abuse. Detectives say Washington is a registered sex offender who had previously been convicted of aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, drug possession, public lewdness, indecent exposure, credit card abuse, trespassing and theft.
