SAN ANTONIO -- For dozens of people across San Antonio, playing sports has been a dream and not a reality. But a local program wants to give new hope to those dreamers.
Today, local children and adults with physical disablities got the chance to play power wheelchair soccer. The game was hosted by the South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Soccer (STRAPS). The progam focuses on bringing down barriers for those who may have thought they couldn't play sports.
Pennie Adams was at the game today to watch her two daughters, 5-year-old Mariah and 6-year-old Makayla, play soccer.
"It means a lot," Adams said. "
My girls go to school and they're all excited hearing about their friends in soccer and t-ball. Now Makayla especially, can go home or go to school and say I'm playing soccer."
STRAPS is currently only offering games and clinics to physically disabled participants. Next year, they'll open up to the special needs community by hosting Special Olympics. STRAPS is sponsored by Boeing Incorporated and the San Antonio Scorpions.
