Over 160 local housekeepers competed today in the 7th annual "Bed Making Contest" to celebrate International Housekeeping Week, which runs through Saturday. The event was hosted by the San Antonio Hotel and Lodging Association and was held this afternoon inside the ballroom of the La Quinta Covention Center Hotel.
Each housekeeper was judged on their bed's appearance, efficiency and speed. They competed for a grand prize of $500 and a tropy, while second place scored $400 and third place took $300. In addition to cash prizes, contestants were also eligible to win a washer, flat screen TV, and gift cards to HEB, Walgreens and local restaurants.
Housekeepers came in teams from their hotels and they were also eligible for prizes. Trophies were given out to the hotels with the best spirit, the best team attire and best overall team score.
Executive housekeepers from La Quinta Convention Center Hotel acted as judges, while St. Phillips college students majoring in the Hospitality Management program posed as official timers of the contest. Even VIP's and hotel general managers got in on the fun, but competing in a special bed making round.
