Do you ever dream the Internal Revenue Service would be audited? Consider it done! The agency that loves to hold you accountable for your tax dollars has been audited.
News 4 found out the agency loves to waste your tax dollars on employee perks. The Treasury Inspector General reported some numbers this week we knew would interest you, because you paid for it.
According to the audit, the IRS spent more than $11,000,000 dollars in 2011 on 35,000 air cards and 4,400 Blackberrys for employees. Of those, 2,300 IRS employees may have snagged their tech gadgets without a manager's approval. The Inspector General found 1,400 of those air cards and more than 700 Blackberrys were not used for three months, but taxpayers still paid for their service. Dozens of air cards and Blackberrys were also not used for the entire year.
In response, the IRS claims to have improved tracking of unused devices and they say they disagree with many of the Inspector General's claims.
