SAN ANTONIO - It's almost back to school time.
That is why the Alamo Area Council of Governments, or AACOG, is holding a back-to-school drive to help out grandparents raising grandchildren.
An estimated six million children in the U.S. are raised by their grandparents.
San Antonio ranks ninth in the nation in that.
The goal is to collect basic school supplies: USB flash drives and backpacks for kindergarten through high school students.
Carol Bolte is a single grandparent raising three special needs children.
Bolte said it is the second year she's gone to AACOG for help.
"We're strapped. We make it from month to month like almost everybody else these days. We're a house full of people and a small income. So this is a tremendous help," said Carol Bolte, who is raising three grandchildren with special needs.
If you'd like to help, you can drop off school supplies at the AACOG building located on Tesoro Drive.
You can also call (210) 362-5271.
The drive runs through August 8th.
