SAN ANTONIO - Here's your chance to be a part of San Antonio sports history. Fans have already come up with the name of San Antonio’s the new pro soccer team --- “The Scorpions.” Now they are asking fans to design the logo.

Everyone is invited to submit ideas. Email your logo design to jlizardo@starsoccersa.com by 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4. You can also drop off your art work at the South Texas Area Regional (STAR) Soccer Complex at Thousand Oaks and Wurzbach Parkway next to Morgan’s Wonderland.

The winning logo will be chosen by the fans. A panel of judges from STAR Soccer, the San Antonio Scorpions FC, Morgan’s Wonderland and The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation will narrow the submissions to three finalists.

The “Design Our Team Logo” finalist garnering the most votes from Scorpions fans will win a prize package consisting of $1,000 in cash, a VIP outing for 20 guests at a 2012 Scorpions home game and a selection of team gear such as a hat, team jersey and t-shirts bearing the new logo. The two runners-up each will receive a team jersey and 10 tickets to a 2012 Scorpions home game.

“The logo design should convey the toughness and feistiness South Texas scorpions are known for,” said Gordon Hartman, who’s heading Soccer for a Cause, the community-wide campaign that’s bringing pro soccer to San Antonio to further boost the sport’s growing popularity and to benefit Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park designed with special-needs individuals of all ages in mind. “If you’ve ever been stung by a scorpion, you know what kind of wallop they pack. We’re confident our team will display similar tenacity on the playing field.”

Fans who vote in the team logo selection process will be entered in a drawing, and the winner chosen at random will receive a package of team gear and four tickets to a Scorpions game. In order to vote, a fan must submit his or her contact information, and he or she can cast not more than one ballot a day.

Although I have always backed Mr Hartman in his attributes to San Antonio, this by far has to be the worst idea and waste of money in the history of San Antonio Sports. Let us NOT forget it's not just 1 Soccer team trying to make it here, but 2 teams. So lets get this straight, the only people who "really" tune into soccer are usually the metrosexual hispanics or the true Mexican Nationals who live around Stone Oak. This will be your target audience here in San Antonio. Your average middle class married man with two kids working 8-5 monday through friday WILL NOT, I repeat will not pay to watch soccer. Your average San Antonio sports fan is usually a die hard Football fan, college football fan, basketball then baseball fan. When was the last time you may have been at a bar or for that matter anywhere and overheard a group of sports fans getting together saying "Hey guys, lets takea drive to Dallas to watch some soccer this weekend, as in watch the Dallas Burn soccer team?" Historically speaking soccer does not make it in this city, it just doesn't. True beer drinking, wing eatin sports men DO NOT WATCH Soccer!! Easy as that!! When was the last time or ever has anyone ever heard of anyone from San Antonio making it big in Soccer nationwide or world wide for that matter? Never. Waste of money San Antonio! Thank you for still not providing us an NFL or MLB team!

I still don't see why they want to promote scoccer. If the Gunslingers, and Riders were football leagues and didn't really make it here, how is the scoccer team going to make it. I don't really see any true fan base here except from the local scoccer organizations. Not sure how the Rampage are doing financially, but I know there attendances are always low. It's either Spurs or Cowboys..

The name should have been Los Cholos. And the Logo could be a Red Bandana
