SAN ANTONIO - Parents always worry about those registered sex offenders who might try and lure children to their homes with Halloween decorations. You should know not all registered sex offenders have to take down their decorations. Once they've done their time and they're not on supervision, they don't have those Halloween restrictions.
“They can have decorations on their house. They can participate in Halloween events. They can have trick-or-treaters,” explained Shannon Jones from the Bexar County Sex Offender Unit.
Only sex offenders still on parole or probation have those restrictions.
You can go to
familywatchdog.us to find out if they're still under supervision. To locate registered sex offenders in your community and to find out if they've been discharged, just type in your address and do a search. You will be able to view the sex offenders’ profile.
You should also know the county is requiring sex offenders under supervision to attend a seminar on Halloween night.
“We feel safety of community first, so we would like to know where our defendants are for that night,” said Jones.
