Guide dogs need forever homes

There is no punishment harsh enough for scumbags that poison other people's dogs in their own backyard!!!! They'd better hope that hubby and I NEVER find out who murdered our dog, and another is critical!!!!! On top of that, another special pet that I bottle raised died in my arms at 3:00 this morning. That makes 4 pets I've lost in less than two weeks. Wow!! What a Merry Christmas we're going to have!!

$300 would scare off the losers. $600 is just greedy.

I imagine the high adoption fee is to weed out the losers. I see too many dogs running around all over the place, and whoever they belong to, doesn't give a crap about them. If you want a dog, then spend some time and money on them, If you're not willing to do that, then go buy a pet rock, fools.

Instead of stories like this, WOAI should be doing stories on how HORRIBLE ACS is and how many animals they are putting down on a daily basis! The owner surrender situation here in SA is OUTRAGEOUS due to the lack of responsibility held by many citizens! Wonder if WOAI knows that owner surrenders are put down within 5 minutes of entering the facility! Wonder if WOAI knows they are making it difficult for good rescues to save these animals while any "joe" off the street can come in and get an animal and God knows how they will end up! Wonder if WOAI knows about the abuse cases being reported on pages like San Antonio Street Saves that neither SAPD nor ACS are doing anything about. SA sucks when it comes to animals. If I were this organization, I would be VERY careful of who you adopt to in San Antonio!

I understand the training issue. But the dogs will not be functioning as guide dogs. We are experienced Lab owners who have paid $300 for a trained dog (not guide dog trained). There are alot of people who would be good owners but cannot pay those types of prices. It says their list is long and very few dogs available so maybe they dont really need adopters that badly. I dont know.

I understand that, getaneducation, but $600 is still quite a lot to ask for an adoption, unless......Since this is a non-profit, can the adoption fee for a service dog be considered "tax deductible", enforcing the designation of "service dog"? Asking $600 will certainly limit the number of folks able & willing to adopt, so many of which I'm sure would provide a completely suitable home filled with love. I want these wonderful animals to find loving, happy homes, and while I understand the reason for the cost, I hate that it will restrict those loving, happy homes options for these wonderful animals. I wish that I could help, but I've already got too many dogs, half of which are rescues. But, I did post this article to my Facebook page in hopes of finding those homes for these babies.

The $600 is used to pay for all of the training time and resources they have already put into the dogs.

Where did you get the $600.00 adoption fee? Did you call and find out?

$600 is a really steep adoption fee for an older dog or a dog with medical issues. Lowering the fee to $300 or $400 would up the amount of adopters.
