To some, Washington's ways are always about monkey business and now there's something to back that feeling up.

The National Institutes of Health has decided to stop using chimpanzees for medical research. There’s a not so small cost to making that decision.

Right now, the NIH spends about $12 million a year on care for more than 700 retired monkeys at sanctuaries.

Those costs are expected to soar over a $30 million cap set by Congress. For more information, visit the Washington Guardian’s website
