SAN ANTONIO - It's a first of its kind event in San Antonio...the American Dream Event kicked off Friday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to help Texans become new homeowners and to help existing homeowners reduce payments on unaffordable mortgages.

The event is sponspored by the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA).

Hundreds of counselors and bank representatives from major lenders will be in attendance to assist with on-site home loans and on-site free loan modifications.

"On average people can save between $500 and $1000 a month off their monthly mortgage payment," said Darren Duarte, Communications Director for NACA.

Home buyers can also qualify for a fixed rate mortgage with no down payment, no closing costs, no points or fees.

"For home buyers, the same thing you don't need perfect credit. We understand that life happens, but we want to see how you're spending your money and there's a great chance you can get approved for a mortgage at the event as well," said Duarte.

The event is free and will run through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To register... go to www.naca.com or call 888-499-6222.

We recently tried to refinance to save $300/mo. Our appraisal came in too low to qualify for the refinance. The appraisal cost us $450. Spouse just lost job. That refinance savings of $300/mo would have really been helpful right now.

Uhhh, excuse me. Isn't that exactly what got us into this mess the first time??? Unbelievable. "Home buyers can also qualify for a fixed rate mortgage with no down payment, no closing costs, no points or fees. 'For home buyers, the same thing you don't need perfect credit. We understand that life happens, but we want to see how you're spending your money and there's a great chance you can get approved for a mortgage at the event as well,' said Duarte."
