SAN ANTONIO -- Do you have an old cell phone or two sitting around collecting dust? New ATM machines are popping up around the city that allows you to use those old cell phones to collect cash.
It's called an ecoATM. The machine scans old cell phones and MP3 players and quotes you a trade in price. If you like the price and agree to sell it, you get cash on the spot. ecoATM's have been around since August, but the word about these unique ATM's is quickly spreading.
Sellers must also scan their driver's license or give a thumbprint to deter the sale of stolen items. On average, people get $25 back, but some can get as much as $250. The old phones will then be recycled or reused.
Currently, the ecoATM's are at Ingram Park Mall, Rivercenter Mall, Rolling Oaks Mall, and South Park Mall.
