SAN ANTONIO - Are you planning to head to the stores to return an unwanted holiday gift?

Charities want you to think twice.

You can donate any unwanted gift cards or actual gifts to charities this holiday season. Even if the gift card is for a place like a pet store, the charity will accept it because it can exchange the card for cash.

All donations are tax deductible. Just make sure you get a receipt.

Do your homework on where the money goes, such as how much is used on administrative costs, and ask about the charity's privacy policy. One place to check on your favorite charities and where the funding goes is CharityNavigator.com.
