There are ways to maintain a kosher diet which is in accordance with Jewish law that should not cost the state any more money. Most vegetarian based proteins are certified kosher. Many fish could be prepared in a kosher manner for the entire prison without adding any cost at all except for training. Raw vegetables and fruit are inherently kosher as long as they are free of insects. However telling a person that they must violate their religion is a violation of federal law. However, kosher food does not need to be brisket or prime rib. But please be fair, Judaism is not a new fangled religion and kosher food is not a new idea. It has been a requirement of Jewish people for over 3,500 years.

Bread and water are kosher. They shouldn't be feeding prisoners anything but bread and water, and they should have to work for that by doing hard labor on a chain gang. I don't like my tax dollars being used to feed anything to convicts. These are the devil's people, and they should be treated as such.

Seriously?! I cannot believe this is even up for debate! Kosher meals were actually available to this inmate however due to his behavior issues he was transferred to a facility which does not offer FREE kosher meals. This inmate can and still does have access to pre packaged kosher meals however this is now at his own expense. Let's not continue giving these inmates every single thing they cry about. The entire point and objective is for them to be punished and to realize the freedoms that they took for granted. If he wants kosher meals so bad, let him pay for them. We all know that the last thing we need is for our hard earned taxpayer money going toward another lost cause! Let's put this money toward education or healthcare. C'mpn people...this is not rocket science!

No, if you were following your religious rules as you were supposed to be, you wouldnt be in prison to begin with. No, prisons shouldn't be obligated to serve meals according to prisoners' religious beliefs. They're not a religious institution. Plus, if you start with this clown, where's it going to end? I think you'd be opening up a can of worms with this. Also, he's in prison for a reason. In prison it's no surprise that your freedoms are taken away -- including your choice of meals. Part of the punishment. Give him the same thing all the other prisoners get & be thankful he's being fed period.
