I watched "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" last night. My memory is not what it used to be, so please be patient. I cannot remember the name of the town, nor the womans name, or even the name of the foundation she started. But previous to her home being lost in a flood, she would go into hospitals and take pictures of preemies. Her son was a preemie and they almost lost him. She realized then how precious pictures would be to other parents if their child does not survive, say he or she only lives a few hours or days. She took really touching pictures, such beautiful memories. As in the training of these special nurses, as all nurses are special, perhaps hospitals could look into this type of service also.

After our son, Jacob, was stillborn almost 3 years ago, we knew that we wouldn't have had such a meaningful experience without the support, compassion, and guidance that we received from our nurse, Susan. We stayed in touch with her and she was there for the healthy birth of our daughter. We wouldn't have wanted that experience without her. She was there for our devastation... and we wanted her there for our celebration as well. Nurses can make ALL the difference. I would have had many more regrets about the time that we had with Jacob had it not been for Susan.

Hi all, I heard the story about teaching nurses about dealing with parents of stillborn children. My daughter was stillborn on her due date 13 yrs. ago and it still seems like yesterday. My husband and I will never forget the nurses that helped us then, or later when my son was born at 23 weeks. They did an awesome job and helped make a very difficult journey a bit more comfortable.
