SAN ANTONIO -- A week ago Wednesday, a family of six was hit by a drug trafficking suspect who was fleeing from police.

Two of the children, 17-month-old Wesley Maspero and 3-year-old Walter Maspero, died from injuries they suffered in that crash. Now, as the rest of the family continues to recover and grieve, a community of people who love them is trying to help with medical and funeral expenses.

A plate benefit will take place on Sunday, September 30th from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Southern Angels Day Care Center located at 102 Octavia. Organizers say the fundraiser will happen rain or shine.

"If we have to move it inside, we will," said Rebecca Rubio.

If your unable to make it out to the benefit, you can also make donations at any IBC bank around town. Just ask that the donation go to the Regina Maspero fund.

News 4 WOAI has also learned the father of the boys remains at University Hospital in stable condition. The mom and her two other children have been released.

The driver who police say hit them, 30-year-old David Rodriguez, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the wreck.
