SAN ANTONIO - The Fiesta Commission on Wednesday announced it is doing away with a longtime tradition.
There will no longer be a Miss Fiesta pageant.
It will be replaced with an internship with the commission instead.
"What's exciting about the program, is that the Miss Fiesta will have an opportunity to create a program or platform that she will present to the City of San Antonio," said Rhonda Calvert, Fiesta Commission. "She will be judged not only on her appearance, and her poise, but also on her accomplishments and the program that she will implement for the city."
The change is being made to find the ideal candidate to represent Fiesta's mission statement of charity.
Those wishing to apply can do so online at
Fiesta's website.
Applications are due by January 31.
A panel of judges will select the top 10 applicants, then narrow them to five.
The five finalists will then make live presentations on March 7 when the winner will be crowned.
