NBC NEWS -- A 7-year-old Maryland boy was expected back in class today after being suspended over a breakfast pastry.

The student at Park Elementary School in Glen Burnie, Md., called his dad to pick him up because school officials said he chewed a strawberry breakfast pastry into a gun shape and then pointed it at another child and said, "Bang, bang."

The boy's dad, B.J. Welch, told the Washington Post, that it was harmless and just a boy doing what kids do. He said his son meant to chew the pastry into a mountain shape but it turned out to look more like a gun.

The boy was punished Friday with one day of suspension and one day of in-school suspension.

The school sent home a letter to parents saying, "During breakfast this morning, one of our students used food to make inappropriate gestures that disrupted the class. While no physical threats were made and no one was harmed, the student had to be removed from the classroom."

Parents should talk to their children if they're troubled by the incident, the school said, and the school counselor will be available for any student who needs to talk.

Just like some parents shouldn’t be parents, some teachers shouldn't be teachers. You all should feel bad for the small boy. He is most likely the ONLY one that is traumatized by this ordeal. This was blown out of proportion.

What the hell is wrong with this picture? We are talking about a 7 year old boy with a pastry. This is being blown out of proportion. All “normal” boys go through the cowboy experience around his age. Many parents only have daughter/s, or a possible misfit abnormal gay boy, or they are raising their son to be a pansy by keeping them from guns. Unfortunately, those parents will never experience a normal son running around the house with his cowboy hat and six shooter cap-gun strapped to his hip yelling bang, bang!

"Anony - 3/6/2013 8:02 PM Report User I applaud them for not tolerating this behavior, he made a disgusting and inappropriate gesture, no different than if he had flipped up his middle finger at someone" I'll waqer that stupidity runs rampant in your family.

Did the magazine on the pop tart hold more than 10 rounds?

Yes, I am keeping my anonimity because if all of you knew me, I'd probably get what I have coming to me. I am so sorry! I have decided to abstain from expressing myself here from now on; this is how bad it has impacted on me. I hav asked God to forgive me and all of you who read my comment, please forgive me. I didn't mean for it to write it the way it sounded. We had something similar happen to us in our family, but my grandson was only three-years old when principal called my son to come get him from the principal's office, take him home, and suspended him for a couple of days.

Yeah because cats dogs and cars are super easy to make with a poptart..And it clearly says he was originally trying to make a mountain lion. AND I'm sure had the school not intervened the boy would have swallowed the gun and all the strawberry bullets! What the school should have done was pull the kid the boy pointed the 'gun' at aside and asked if he/she felt threatened by the gesture. If not he should have gotten silent lunch or iss at thr worst. Now this kid and probably the whole school is truamatized. Such a great system we have! !

So what happens when a child draws or paints the wrong thing in art class? This is way over reacting. The kid saw something in his imagination!
