SAN ANTONIO – Today we wrap up our “Best of San Antonio” Fiesta with the announcement of San Antonio’s favorite Fiesta medal.

The runaway winner is the 2011 Viva Fiesta medal. Congratulations to designer David Durbin.

“I've been designing all year since September, and I decided to design my own. And this is what I got. It became a very popular design this year,” said Durbin as he accepted his Best of San Antonio reward. “Everywhere I went everybody wanted one after they saw it.”

Medals are an essential part of Fiesta. Organizations all across town create medals to sell or give away, with the goal being to collect as many as you can. King Antonio XLIX is credited with starting the tradition in 1971 when he put 200 royal coins on ribbons and distributed them at Fiesta events. If you have an opportunity to shake hands with Fiesta royalty or do the Happy Dance for Cleto, you may be lucky enough to have a medal slide into your palm.

arewestupid - I hate the fact that this city has SO many drunk driving accidents, and this is only adding FUEL to the FIRE. Instead of having this all out drunkfest...why not have something worth while. Fiesta is noisy, filty and lasts way too long. It's just another reason for everyone to get drunk.

U haters just don't know how to have fun!!! ever heard of OCTOBERFEST I was lucky enough to be in GERMANY during their octoberfest and WOW!! It's all about the celebration!! DRUNKS R DRUNKS they don't need a reason! its only that the cops had set-up points ready, something they should have every weekend, and I bet they'll catch just as many.

Calm down yari21, it's time for your pill. Cleto set's Hispanic sterotypes back 100 years. John Gerrard, lose the hat fool. Ya ain't foolin nobody with ur tanning booth tan, I see ur goggle eye's. As far as a good, safe fun time, tell that to the people who have been stabbed, shot, or victims of drunk drivers.

Most of the idiots on this blog, bashing Fiesta, also have to learn the difference between a Medal and metal. Get a dictionary losers and they're asking you to vote on a MEDAL not to give your two cents worth about drunk drivers, or anything else. Sheesh, not everyone that "partys" at Fiesta gets drunk just like most of the drunk drivers on the roads don't necessarily attend the Fiesta events and for the one going on an on about people who attend the events spending their money and going broke. That may be you, that's not me and that's not most of the people attending. Get a sense of a good, safe, fun, responsible time!!!!!

People who don't like Fiesta should go to Houston while the rest of us raise money for worthwhile causes and have a wonderful time. We aren't all Cavaliers or Queens, but we can enjoy all the fun. The parades are great! I didn't have a drink the entire week, but did have a gordita..yum. The best medal was the Cannoli medal which benefited the feline spay and neuter program in King William. PS some poster needs to learn to spell and learn the difference between "there" and "their." Viva Fiesta; can't wait until Fiesta 2012.

I don't know who told Mr. Cleto Rodriguez that he was a comedian. Mr. Rodriguez you're not funny. I really don't get how can people even laugh at your jokes. You might want to check these comedians, hopefully you learn something from them. Carlos Mencia, George Lopez and Polo Polo
