SAN ANTONIO – You’ve heard of unclaimed cash from bank accounts but we’re learning about a whole new treasure chest where you may have money waiting for you.
The grand total: about $1 billion. That’s how much money Consumer Reports estimates is waiting to be claimed from old life insurance policies.
The magazine found, though, there’s a one in 600 chance of cashing in on that fortune.
So why is so much money just sitting there? Often, people buy life insurance policies and don’t keep the records. Decades later, when they’ve died, their relatives don’t know to claim the benefits.
