Laurie Salazar reporting for News 4 WOAISAN ANTONIO -- More than 1000 runners participated in the
Great Turkey Challenge presented by H-E-B.
Eric Cooper, San Antonio Food Bank director, says, “It’s an opportunity for folks to make a difference on Thanksgiving Day and get out and exercise."
Pets, children, and adults from all walks of life ran and walked in the 5K route.
“Today's race is all about raising money to purchase turkeys for the holidays,” Cooper says.
And they did that to the tune of 12,000 turkeys. In fact, the food bank surpassed its number from last year of 4,000 turkeys.
While the goal was to raise money and to buy plenty of holiday birds, it also provided a taste of Thanksgiving for the 343rd Training Squadron from Lackland Air Force base.
In the end, it was a Thanksgiving run that touched so many from the airmen to the volunteers, and everyone involved.
