SAN ANTONIO -- Right now there are families all over the city struggling to put dinner on the table.

Children are going to bed hungry.

The good people at the San Antonio Food Bank are doing what they can but News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Brian Collister cooked up a plan to help.

It may sound nuts, but it's true.

A jar of peanut butter can make a difference in a child's life.

It is the one item the San Antonio Food Bank needs more than any other.

And that is why the News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters stepped in to help.

"What the food bank needs most is protein. Protein nourishes the body and we think of peanut butter as gold," said Eric Cooper, Executive Director of the San Antonio Food Bank.

So we decided to give Cooper a surprise delivery.

"Peanut butter is product that is easy to prepare, you don't have to cook, and kids can feed their brothers and sisters and it's nourishing. So it's the best product we can take in and give out but we never have enough," said Cooper.

"Well, the Trouble Shooters heard about the fact you need peanut butter and we have a suprise for you, so let's take you to the dock," said News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooter Brian Collister.

"Alright, let's do it," Cooper responded.

"We know you need peanut butter so let's show you what we got," said Collister as the driver threw open the backdoor of the tractor trailer.

Inside the truck was a donation of more than 3200 jars of H-E-B brand peanut butter.

"It couldn't come at a better time. The Food Bank has just had such a tough year. To really meet the need for our number-one-needed item is we're overwhelmed," said Cooper.

"Well, this is more than 6000 lbs. of peanut butter, two pallets, more than 3000 jars of peanut butter. The Trouble Shooters knew you needed the peanut butter so we called our friends at H-E-B, Texas Peanut Producers Board, and Time Warner Cable. And everyone went in to provide that for you," said Collister.

"For everyone that was involved in making this donation just thank you so much. It will make the difference for the families we serve", said Cooper.

None of this would have been possible without help.

"This is the season right now where everyone needs to be helping one another in need. And what better way than to donate peanut butter. Its a great tasting food it lasts a long time on the shelf. And it's a great food donation item for this food bank and we're so excited to be a part of this," said Lindsay West Kennedy with the Texas Peanut Producer's Board.

"We called and asked you guys to step up and you did. Why?" asked Collister.

"It's the season of giving and to partner with great organizations like WOAI, the Peanut Producers as well as H-E-B is for a great organization like the Food Bank. Eric Cooper does an outstanding job here and it's only right for corporate citizens to step up in a time of need," said Gavino Ramos with Time Warner Cable.

Again, we're trying to raise 1,000,000 pounds by the end of this month.

You can help by dropping off non-perishable food, like peanut butter, at any Security Service Federal Credit Union.
