Several hundred packed the Omni at the Colonnade Hotel Thursday night as the La Prensa Foundation raised thousands of dollars for scholarships.
Among those honored were Judge Peter Sakai, restaurateur James Hasslocher, Robert Kiolbassa, entrepreneur Eliot Garza of NSide Magazine, Terry Brechtel, David Lynd, Dr. Bruce Leslie, Janice Hicks, Bobby Cavender, Father Tony Vilano, and Ericka Prosper Nirenberg.
Congratulations to all of them and the entire Duran family. Millie Duran, who helped start the foundation, wasn't able to be there because of health concerns, but husband Tino gave her an emotional tribute as he recognized the winners.
News 4 WOAI's Cleto Rodriguez warmed up the crowd and even convinced the amazing Patsy Torres to come up onstage and sing a little before Randy Beamer took the microphone to introduce the honorees.
