All 1 police officer at a school is, is a painted target. The purpose of conceal carry is that anyone could be armed. You don't know who. And how many times does a registered sex offender come to school to have sex with a kid????? Stupid system. A guy with an AR-15 is not gonna hand over a license, just a couple rounds of 5.56 as he's on his way to the classrooms!!! This whole approach is like trying to use a screwdriver to cut a piece of wood. You got tools..... Just the wrong ones!!!!

Plenty of urban schools have been using methods to decrease violence, including metal detectors, daily bag checks using only see through backpacks, etc. for decades already. Of course all changes need investment, but admin don't have to reinvent the wheel.

If you look at the Registered Sex Offender Database by Zip Code, Map View, you'll see San Antonio covered in dots. And of course criminals have kids. Public schools have the moral obligation to give all kids a quality education no matter what their parents are like, even if the parents are convicted murderers on death row is no excuse to pass the blame. That's why I believe cameras should be put in classrooms and teachers should be reviewed frequently like Bill Gates suggests, because teachers and admin are all indoctrinated to blame parents way too much when kids spend most of their waking hours in those schools. Asian schools are very rigorous and Korea is 5 years ahead of the U.S. when it comes to technology, America is at a snail's pace in too many things, including exercise. High paying Engineering careers needs to be emphasized a lot more.

"You have to have the right temperment to own a gun." Police officers can lose their tempers just as easy as a citizen. That statement is, sorry to say passing judgment on people she doesn't know. Not every officer can be at every school, and someone who's sick in the head isn't going to check their drivers license at her desk. This is why we have people TRAINED to carry a weapons. If our schools can no longer guarantee the safety of our children, then we parents will. And God forbid anything every happen, the schools can thank the parents for stepping up security, when the school or the district wont.
