HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The state of Texas has executed Joshua Maxwell for robbing and murdering Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Rudy Lopes in San Antonio 10 years ago. Just hours before his execution, Maxwell granted a final interview to News 4 WOAI's Randy Beamer.
“I was a young idiot,” said Maxwell told Beamer.
Maxwell went on a cross-country crime spree with his stripper girlfriend, Tessie McFarland. The pair was later captured after a shootout in San Francisco. The case got nationwide attention. They were even compared to "Bonnie and Clyde" and characters in the movie "Natural Born Killers."
