Maybe Austin can claim a bigger nationwide reputation right now with its uber-hip SXSW festivals, but San Antonio's Luminaria arts night is coming on strong. And it's family-friendly as well as hipster-friendly. Plus it's not yet over-commercialized.
The sixth annual arts night celebration in and around Hemisfair Park drew an estimated 335,000 people Saturday night.
It was a massive photo-op and party, bringing contemporary art to the people (as it was designed to do) with the help of dozens of artists and arts groups.
But it's
so cool that it's pretty much impossible to describe without using pictures. So I took a bunch of pictures, with the help of my 11-year-old son. So you can check them out at a slideshow
here and on my facebook page
here.
Congratulations to everybody who helped put it on and everybody involved. And if you haven't been to Luminaria before, make sure to check it out next year.
One suggestion for organizers: More food and drink booths. But that's nit-picking.
