News 4 WOAI's Randy Beamer took a few photos of something you may have noticed over the past month or two.
They're not too big or showy right now, but they'll grow into something you'll really notice when Spring comes in a couple of months.
So do you know what they are? Beamer challenged our John Gerard and Elsa Ramon to identify them on our 6:30 pm newscast.

OK. Now we can tell you that they're Bluebonnets. Yes, the iconic State Flower of Texas that usually blooms in March all along our roadways.
The plants you'll see in the photos have been growing over the past several months, surviving the freezes that we've had.
They're pretty hardy flowers, but you need to plant or scatter the seeds in the fall so they can get established over the winter in time to bloom in the spring. That's why you can't expect any seeds you plant in the spring to bloom this year, though they may bloom next year.
BTW, Beamer has a ton of these things in what passes as his front yard. So if you look hard enough around our website, you can probably find other shots of Bluebonnets he's taken over the years.
