SAN MARCOS, Texas -- A rash of car break-ins are happening in parking lots all along I-35.

The crooks have now apparently turned their attention to a college campus. Because Texas State University is just off IH-35, police believe it is an easy target.

"They're scattering the burglaries around campus, hitting different parking lots in different areas," explained Captain Rickey Lattie of the Texas State University Police Department.

For two months, two groups of thieves have come onto campus in the early morning hours, smashing vehicle windows and stealing anything they can get their hands on.

Thanks to several surveillance cameras around campus, Texas State University police are already following some leads. And they know the thieves are not students.

Area police departments are also teaming up with the university to catch the crooks.

Police are suggesting that when you park your car at a business or on campus to make sure you don't leave anything valuable inside your car.
