The summer is going by quickly! In just a few short weeks the kids return to school. There are some things you can do right now to prepare them – and yourself – to start the school year off on the right foot. Etiquette expert Diane Gottsman stopped by the San Antonio Living Show Friday to help us all out. Click here to watch…
- Do a rehearsal drive by, walk by or bike by.
- If you are a new family to the school, call the school office and ask if there is any family you may be able to meet before the first day of class. Don’t skip the open house
- Walk your child to the door but don’t loiter.
- Start getting into the habit of going to bed a little earlier a few weeks prior to the first day of classDon’t discount your child’s feelings – As an adult, we know that by the end of the first school day their anxieties will probably be much better but it doesn’t help to say “You’ll be fine, stop worrying about it” without acknowledging their feelings and fears.
- Know how to use a combination lock. Visit the school website with your child - Spend some time reviewing the cafeteria menu, supply list, teacher roster and anything and everything else that catches their interest.
- Pick out the first day of school outfit the day before.
