LAREDO, Texas – Robert Gaona was featured on a News 4 WOAI “Wheel of Justice” segment in early October. He was wanted for the June 2006 murder of Gerardo de la Garza. He was found lying in front of a car, engine still running, at a South Side motel.

Gaona was implicated in the murder of his friend after a botched robbery attempt according to authorities.

Police say the 25-year-old suspect fled to Mexico after the crime was committed. Investigators with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force were able to discover Gaona’s whereabouts and contacted Mexican law enforcement officials.

After he was arrested in Nuevo Laredo on a burglary of habitation charge, he was taken to the international bridge and turned over to U.S. officers.

Gaona is now in the Webb County Jail in Laredo awaiting his return to Bexar County.
