SAN ANTONIO - An ingredient used in some organic foods could be toxic for consumers.

Organic brown rice syrup is often used as a sweetener in baby formulas, energy bars and other high energy foods.

Researchers at Dartmouth University found the syrup contains potentially harmful amounts of arsenic.

In fact, one baby formula they tested had an arsenic concentration that was six times higher than what the Environmental Protection Agency considers to be safe.

Energy bars using organic rice syrup also had higher amounts of arsenic than those without it.
