SAN ANTONIO – The word "funk" is a loose musical term but a sexy musical ingredient. When you take funky beats and loose rhythms then add rock'n'roll to the cocktail you get Use Of Time. They've been bringing that "Chilli Peppers" groove since 2010 and made their way to The Garage studio for a second appearance. The band is excited to drop their new album this summer and talked to us about some exciting stuff. The band recently conquered a huge success in their career playing a show at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin, Texas.

“It was awesome to get to be in the same green room where all these natural acts come through! We made use of that refrigerator. We finished all the beer,” says lead man, Mike Valadez. They also made waves performing at the Star Wars Artslam at the White Rabbit right here in San Antonio.

Use Of Time recently completed recording their debut album at Toastworks Studios and are set to celebrate the release July 25th at Sam's Burger Joint. Garage vets, Deep In the Heart, and a new band, Othello, are opening. Use of Time's drummer, Dave Gonzales, will be a proud papa that night since his kid will hit the stage with Othello!

“They are a bunch of young kids that are up and coming and very talented artists. My son is in the band, he’s the drummer,” says Gonzales.

With all this excitement Use of Time was ready to rock a song off the new record called “When I Choose To” for us. They recently added guitarist, Crystal Rodriguez, who gave a refreshing change for the guys. We asked her what it's like rocking with a bunch of dudes.

“It’s horrible,” Rodriguez jokes. “No, it’s great. These guys are awesome. We have a good time all the time.”

Laying down new arrangements for tunes comes natural to guitarist, Luis Pena, and bass player, Henry Cerda. The track “Catch Mint” depicts a messed up relationship and trying to bring back things that shouldn’t be touched. Their high-energy performance of the song struck a high note in the Garage studio.

Be a part of the CD release show with Deep In The Heart and Othello on Wednesday, July 25th, at Sam’s Burger Joint located at 330 East Grayson Street. All ages. No cover for over 21, $3 under 21. Every person who attends gets a free CD, will be entered to win door prizes, and could be in for a couple of surprises throughout the night. Let's get funky!

You can also check them out at Backstage Live (E Houston St San Antonio, TX 78205) on Thursday, August 23rd at 8PM. Details at: http://www.rawartists.org/sanantonio.
