SAN ANTONIO – Some quick thinking and help from Alamo Music saved The Garage today. Seems that the drummer of Sans Faith arrived at the Garage sans snare drum, but Alamo Music helped us out. Huge thanks! Make sure you check them out whenever you need anything music related.
The drummer situation stirred up a little animosity within the other band members, but it paid off with unchained aggression once they performed. Click here to watch...
Sans Faith captures that late 80s – early 90s punk-thrash San Antonio scene, and brings it into the modern day.
“I got introduced into the scene pretty early,” explains Bassist Emilio Fernandez. “DMZ Clubhouse – I was there. Did it.”
So what does ‘Sans Faith’ mean?
“Sans is French. It means ‘without,’” explained guitarist and newest addition to the band Rey Reyes. “It doesn’t mean ‘faith’ religiously. It means faith in anything – your job, your friends – lack of faith in your country. Whatever you have lack of faith in – that’s what it is.”
Now if you’ve been around the local scene, you may have heard that Sans Faith is a band not to be messed with. It all stems from an incident at Backstage Live. So what really happened that night?
“I got my guitar broken on stage. The owner of the club that broke my guitar… Mike, our drummer, jumped out and he punched him in the face. When he did that, the bouncers came on stage to beat us up. And then our friends from the crowd came on stage to help us fight,” explained Rey. “Everyone else got pretty much beat up... It was pretty cool.”
Sans Faith has been head-banging with their thrash/rocker style since 2005 with an interesting rotation of band mates. Throughout the years Sans Faith has gone through some breaks, or in their case, detention. After a break in 2008 the guys had an opportunity to open for major punk bands, which relit their passion to keep playing. This passion encouraged the band to begin recording their first official full-length album to be released this fall.
