SAN ANTONIO - Usually moving to a new city merits a transition period where you’re trying to figure out how you fit into the mix. There are two things I learned almost immediately after moving to San Antonio that have kept my head above water. If there’s a reason, any reason to gather loads of people together and have a party, it will happen. Think: Fiesta, NIOSA, SA Stock Show and Rodeo, need I continue?
In the same vein, San Antonians enjoy adult beverages. Drinks are a staple on the menu if you throw a party, or if not, no one is going to show up. The friendly people of San Antonio love to have a good time and they’re not shy about doing it with or around as many like-minded people as possible. Why would anyone ever leave this place?!
This week marks the third annual Local Music Week, and it’s the most perfect excuse I’ve ever heard to get as many people together as possible for a good time. For those who aren’t familiar with the concept, Local Music Week is about embracing music in the community and includes a weeklong celebration of San Antonio’s musical talents.
Local Music Week is just that: local. Venues all over the city will be hosting music showcases with varying local acts and inviting you, the fans, to come out, have some fun and enjoy some of the local talent that’s right here in our fine city.
Local 782, a local non-profit organization, kicked off Local Music Week Sunday with a slew of events throughout the week. No genre is forgotten in this mix. I guarantee you on any given night this week you will be able to find your kind of music playing somewhere in the city -- and most of the shows are FREE!
San Antonio has a strong music community and brilliant, talented people involved. Be a part of what’s happening and let’s get out and show our support for any and everyone who does something to enrich the art and culture of our fair city. And don’t worry, beverages will be available at most venues and fun is guaranteed to ensue.
