SAN ANTONIO - This week we’ve got some reggae rockin’ and rappin’ in the garage. It’s Charley Marley!
Click here to watch…Mr. Marley got his start is Austin, but expanded his horizons from there.
“I just got sick of it. Too much of the same thing, so I decided to take off. I traveled and did the whole traveling musician gig thing for a while. Playing for change. It was great,” Marley explained.
But it wasn’t easy.
“I didn’t know what I was doing. There was too much freedom for me to handle. So I rebelled and did the whole crime thing. Stealing stuff and tripping on drugs,” said Marley. “You accumulate a bit of a criminal history when you do things like that.”
While in prison, he found God.
“That was crazy for me actually. Because I had been raised in church and doing the whole choir boy thing. But that was kinda stupid. Kinda lame,” explained Marley. “But that God that was there for me as a kid was there for me again when I was locked up. It’s actually become real. It’s pretty cool”
Charlie Marley will be up in the New Braunfels “crazy juice” scene at the
Stone Coffee Bar on Friday. He’ll also be at the Varsity Bar in Austin on Saturday. If you happen to catch him, ask for an opera throw down. His voice is like a combination of Fergie and Jesus. If you want to stay here in San Antonio, go to the White Rabbit Saturday, September 22.
Keep up with Charlie on
