SAN ANTONIO – We get radioactive with a little smashcore in the Garage this week. “97 Grenade” do things with purpose - not on purpose. It’s the thinking man’s hardcore, which may begin to explain the ties. Click here to watch…

Songs performed: Screwball, Stop the Antics

The Band…
  • Abel Villareal – drums
  • “Killer” Robert Segovia – guitar
  • “Hardcore” Matt Salazar – bass / vocals
Abel, Robert and Matt have been together two and half years. Matt and Abel met while working at Six Flags. When they met Robert he wanted to play some Pantera – oh yeah! Hardcore Matt is very straight forward and comes up with 45 second to one minute songs in true punk fashion. Abel and Robert come in with creativity and make a 97 Grenade more than just hardcore. With so many influences so compacted into a tight trio - punk, thrash, hardcore, rock and other things - they decided to call their genre “SmashCore.”

Matt is straight edge. If you’re going to play a smashcore band, you have to have at least one straight edge guy in the band.

Their next show is in Austin at Headhunter’s on Saturday, January 7. They will be playing with punk bands from all across Texas. Lookout for a tour of the Midwest coming up in the Summer.
