Win a family 4-pack of tickets to see members of the San Antonio Symphony in the Fabulous Family Fourth Concert with the largest Independence Day display of fireworks on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Conducted by Bernard Rubenstein, this performance celebrates 233 years of American independence and commemorates the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln with a performance of American composer Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait".
While the fireworks ban in Bexar County affects consumer sales and the use of fireworks by consumers within the county, the ban does not apply to commercial displays given by state-licensed, city-permitted commercial display companies. The fireworks display will go on as planned!
Dave Rios of KONO 101.1FM will perform as a speaker reading excerpts of Abraham Lincoln’s greatest documents, including his “Gettysburg Address” in Aaron Copeland’s “Lincoln Portrait”. Celebrating the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth in 2009, "Lincoln Portrait" is a symphonic orchestral work written by the American composer Aaron Copland. The work requires a full symphony orchestra, with particular emphasis on the brass section at climactic moments. “Lincoln Portrait” was written by Copland as part of the World War II patriotic war effort in 1942.
