Here’s a handy extra set of eyes with a very easy set up. Even non-techy people can handle it!  Dropcam is a video surveillance system that connects easily to your computer.  Plug it into an outlet, and your computer router and done! The internet-based system allows you to monitor wherever you position the camera, and you get decent resolution and good video quality.  Use it as a baby monitor when he/she is napping.  Keep on eye on Fido when you’re away at work.  Monitor your castle when on vacation!  Dropcam works on PC and Mac.

I really like Dropcam’s surveillance on-the-go feature.  You can have it transmit the images directly to your iPhone or Android.  Talk about convenient!   It also allows you to set up motion-detected text alerts; great if you’re heading out of town for a few days.   The palm-sized system is light weight and compact enough, you can also tote it around in a pinch.  The surveillance camera itself weighs only about 3 ounces.

With Dropcam, you store and record the images on a secure server.  You then have the ability to determine who gets to see that video.     Find it for $200 at www.dropcam.com. Want to hear what you see? The Dropcam Echo is your option, if you want to have audio capabilities – and yes, that also works on your phone. The Dropcam Echo is $280.
