WOAI.com user "ChrisVpr86" got this tattoo sleeve when he moved to Texas. He says it represents all the places he's lived. The water for Long Island, NY. The tree for Upstate, NY and the star on his neck is for Texas.

I was visiting a friend of mine in the hospital and overheard two young women talking about getting a tattoo. The conversation was disturbing - to say the least.

These women wanted tats as a fashion item and to keep up with the Jones. Their friend has one; their boss has one; their brother and so on. I have news for you: fashion changes and so do the people you deal with over a lifetime. But morals should always remain the same.

I have friends who have tattoos of loved ones - family members who have pasted away. I can see that. I understand that. I can also understand a tattoo on a military man, a biker, a fisherman, etc. But a store clerk? A bank teller? A teacher? Nurse? Doctor? Lawyer? President? Give me a break!

The women were talking about maybe getting Chinese writing with some ancient message. Why in the world would you one want one of these “flavor of the day” things to begin with? Why Chinese writing with some message that has nothing to do with you, who you are, or who you’re ever going to be.

My point is that tattoos are silly and give the image of a non-professional, non-educated person.

Tattoos are now big business in America because your average, everyday Joe wants to have one. In reality, having a tat is today’s world means nothing because everyone has one. You are just like everyone else.

As I listened to these women, I could not help but to think that they had no clue about how these tattoos will affect them in the next twenty years. You may look cool right now, but may not get the job of your dreams when the tat on your neck is seen by a boss like me. Or maybe a tattoo on your ankle shows through when you sit down during an interview. You just might not get that job. Image is everything in life folks, and the image a tattoo portrays is that you lack good judgment and most likely have faulty morals.

I realize many of you have these tattoos and think they are cool. Do you have a tattoo? Why? Did you get one because they look cool? Does it mean something to you? Now if you have a tattoo and regret getting it, let me know.

This is the "No Bull Zone" and we don't use PC here. Straight talk is all that is permitted. Also, don't take this personally. It’s just my opinion. My hope is this will stop someone from ruining their body or image with one of these things.

What say you?

Go to www.straytats.com and get a high quality, temporary tattoo. This way, it truly is a fashion item without permanent skin damage. They look very real.

Since I wrote this article I have noticed these things a little more. I was in Home Depot tonight and saw a woman maybe mid fifties with one on her lower back of what I could not make out. It just seemed out of place and she seemed too darn old. Just me I guess and it did not look good on top of that.

i have three tattoos on my body and i don't regret any of them. each one has a special meaning to me. the celtic cross on my right arm represents my scottish heritage and my love for Christ. the other two are on my left arm. one is an celtic arm band and the other is a griffin on top of the arm band. each one represents more of my scottish heritage. they are well hid, only those close too me know that i have them. i think getting a tattoo is a choice that each person has to live with and before a person gets one they should think long and hard about what they are getting and where it will be. it is a fad now to have one and i think one day just about everybody will have one. i am a business professional and i deal with all sorts of clients and i am seeing more of them every day. i think society will have to get used to it.

tats are not for everyone. for me they tell the story of my life. and i'm a professional *gasp*. i am a banker and may even handle some of your accounts.

I'd rather have a server covered in tats, than one with long greasy hair or acne. I've never seen a tat fall into someone's food. There are many superficial people out there that judge based on more than character or work ethic. It's really laughable that it exists in this instance, because it insinuates that the non-tattooed people are the opposite. Anyway, thanks for the blog. It's good to get a pulse check of our fellow peeps.
