Little Eric wasn't even born yet last February when my husband and I went shopping for a play yard.

My sister-in-law had a nice one that pulled triple duty as a bassinet and changing table.  And I really liked the idea of having one on the first story of our two story home.

We bought the Fisher Price play yard with all the rain forest animals on it.  My husband set it up that same day.  And little Eric slept in it the first night after we brought him home from the hospital.

Now, almost 10 months later, the play yard has been recalled.  A story I read online says the rails can collapse and trap the child inside.  More than 1,350 incidents have been reported.

I understand these recalls will happen from time to time.  As a mom, I expected this to happen.

But what I don't understand is how Simplicity, the manufacturer of the play yard, isn't responding to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's requests to recall the play yards.  Simplicity is also not responding to those 1,350 incidents.  (CPSC press release)

Instead, Fisher Price is helping out the 200,000 people who bought one of these play yards even though they didn't make them.

I called the Fisher Price number this morning and was very pleased with how they're handling this situation.  At least I know that as a parent, I can depend on Fisher
Price.

If you bought one of those play yards, here's the info you need:  Contact Fisher-Price at (800) 432-5437 anytime or visit their Web site.
