SAN ANTONIO - Every parent worries about sexting, but a new survey shows few teens are actually sending or receiving sexual text messages.
The new
study from the University of New Hampshire found only 2.5% of teens have sexted. About 90% of the texts did not go beyond the intended recipient. More than 1,500 kids and teens between the ages of 10 and 17 were surveyed.
An earlier, often-cited study had estimated that as many as one in five teenagers engaged in sexting, but it included 18- and 19-year-olds, most likely increasing the overall prevalence.
It's what everyone's talking about today on the News 4 WOAI Facebook page….
“It's slightly offensive that we are expected to sext and be rebellious. Believe it or not, most teenagers are genuinely concerned about how adults see them,” commented Lizzy Ann Stevenson.
“That percentage is way off,” commented Richard Wegner. “I doubt they would tell anyone that they do or don't.”
“I actually give today’s kids a lot of credit for policing their own world. I think our kids are a lot smarter then we give them credit for,” commented Antonio Garza.
