SAN ANTONIO -- A woman in San Antonio is calling American Airlines - un-American.

She says they disrespected her and her entire family, while her husband was leaving to serve our country.

American Airlines has a policy that lets families of service members go beyond security and stay at the gate, until the flight boards.

Jo Ann Jordan says her husband was being deployed overseas for a year. But, his ticket said he was heading to a base in the U.S. first.

American Airlines wouldn't give the family a gate pass. Jo Ann says several employees called her husband a liar and told them to get out of the way.

"We hope for a joyful reunion in one year, however there's not a 100% guarantee that he'll come back. So, it's very important to spend those last few minutes with your loved one," says Jo Ann.

Two hours later, a supervisor finally gave in and gave the family a gate pass. But, by then, it was too little, too late.

A spokesperson for the airline tells News 4 WOAI, this was a gray area, because the ticket didn't have the overseas destination listed.

But, they say, they're sorry it happened.

I think the headline of this article is extremely exaggerated. It's like the end of the world if someone is "Unamerican" so the title is used to rile people up. Anyway I have to agree with moushkame. "It made me wonder if the woman thought that deploying soldiers took an American Airline flight right into a war zone." Don't you know? They fly them in on a luxury plane and they eat snacks and watch movies the whole way. Got a lovely airport in a Iraq where the locals have a party as soon as one lands. I think having orders that say your final destination is in or heading to a warzone should be enough. I think the airlines needs to look a little closer at their policies and train their employees to use common sense.
