SAN ANTONIO - Everyone's asking me what the Spurs need to do. Charles Barkley says the need is clear.

“They've got to make a trade,” said Barkley on TNT. “They've got to get Tim Duncan some help in the middle because right now they're just too little. And their better guys are too old.”

Just because Charles Barkley says they've got to make a trade, does not mean the Spurs are thinking that way. But chances are, they're thinking trade.

The trade deadline is just ten days away, and the team they have now is flat out not working. Richard Jefferson continues to be a bust, and a team once proud of its ability to get defensive stops and rebounds can't stop anyone.

They lost to the Kobe-less Lakers Monday night. That puts them in sixth in the West. With their schedule they are now projected to finish eighth, barely making the playoffs.

Jefferson says the time to worry is when the coach stops yelling at you, and RJ claims, “He has not stopped yelling at me yet.”

In the past three years, Jefferson only scored less than ten points in a game 17 times. That's 17 times in three years. This year, he's already had 16 games of 10 points or less. Plain and simple: he's not getting it done.

So will the Spurs front office take Sir Charles' advice and make a move? If so another big guy is certainly the need.

We have heard the rumors of Amar'e Stoudamire, but that's doubtful. The latest name is Tyrus Thomas of the Bulls. He's young. He's 6-10, athletic and would help Tim Duncan down low. The big question is what would the Bulls want in return?

Just trade the whole team and start over! There old and tired. They should of started to rebuild last year instead of wasting there money on washed up jefferson. Now there so far over the cap they wont be able to get anyone worth anything this off season. Talk about when "Good times go bad" !?!

I agree. Ratliff needs more minutes. He seems effective. Also, I think Jefferson is very good at attacking the rim and creating offensive plays. He is not as bad as you guys make him out to be. However, he has horrible defense and you see that with Pop constantly screaming at the guy. He'd fit well with the Phoenix Suns, but not us for sure.

The panic button should be hit now? Maybe. Spurs have a big man in Ratliff. Pop seems unwilling to give him extended minutes, though. When he's been out there, I think he's been pretty effective. Maybe they wait to see if Splitter's available in off-season? Whatever they do, they should trade RJ for a grade schooler and a box of crayons - between them, they have a better shot at actually guarding somebody.

I see Charles as a Spurs fan on the inside because he analyzes the Spurs very well. What he's saying though was pretty obvious from the Lakers game. I think he's right.

Report: Kaman to stay with Hornets
The San Antonio Spurs struck out on landing free agent forward Kenyon Martin and now it seems any hopes of acquiring New Orleans Hornets' Chris Kaman are dashed as well.
