SAN ANTONIO - Lately it's been all 'doom and gloom' when it comes to the Spurs. But how about this? Maybe the rodeo road trip will be good for them.
Sure, they've lost nine games on the road already, but they've lost ten at home.
The national press has noticed the Spurs struggles and have begun piling on. The front page of ESPN.com Monday featured the Spurs and asked if this is a “Moment of Surrender.” Everyone's picking up on the fact that these are not normal times in San Antonio.
The rodeo trip is usually the time where they turn it around. It's known, but the player prefer not to talk about it.
“We don't talk about it. We never have. It's just something that kinda happens. It's best done that way,” said Tim Duncan. “Expectations are, obviously, there because we've done it in the past. It's just happened in the past. So we're going to hopefully make it happen that way.”
If there's ever a season when the Spurs need the annual extended road trip go well, it's this one. The sagging Spurs finished a disappointing six-game homestand with a 2-4 record after getting coming up short against the Nuggets 103-89 Sunday. San Antonio (27-19) is currently the fifth seed in the Western Conference, but only a game from being the eighth seed.
The trip starts Wednesday night in Sacramento against the Kings. They go to the West Coast, then pause for the all-star break, and then head East. In all, eight games before coming home to face Oklahoma City on February 24.
