SAN ANTONIO - We are now just two weeks away from opening night for the Spurs, and the competition for jobs at training camp is picking up. The Spurs waived big man Dwayne Jones Tuesday.

One guy who's a roster lock is George Hill. He's now known simply as “Coach Pop's Favorite Player.”

That's a far cry from Tony Parker who was a verbal punching bag for Spurs coach Gregg Popovich when he was a young point guard.

“I always ask him to be hard on me like TP. TP gives me a lot of stuff because he's [Coach Popovich] not as hard on me as he was with TP,” Hill explained. “I'm still waiting on that.”

But Coach Pop was quick to chime in, “I like him a lot better then I liked Tony at the same age, so I'm not as hard on him as I was on Tony.”

Tony Parker will rest and not play against the Clippers. This one tips off at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the AT&T Center.
